Robert Bertrand “Bobby” Pourteau, Jr. was called to his Heavenly home on the afternoon of January 26, 2019 in the comfort of his home in Westlake while surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years of age.
Born in Elizabeth, Louisiana to Robert Bertrand Pourteau, Sr. and Lydia Gilley Pourteau, Mr. Pourteau was reared in Oakdale, where he graduated from Oakdale High School in 1952. He lived in LeBlanc, Louisiana for sixty years, moving to the Lake Charles area recently to be closer to family. He was a self-employed truck driver who enjoyed working heavy equipment. His passion was logging. He embraced outdoor life, including hunting of any kind, especially squirrel hunting. He was a faithful member of the Apostolic Temple of Lake Charles.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his wife of nearly sixty-two years, Helen Reeves Pourteau; four children, Dianna Treece and husband Reverend Rick Treece of Lake Charles, Sheryl Profitt and husband Tracy and Melinda Jones, both of Westlake, and Brian Pourteau and wife Tonya of Moss Bluff; one brother, Charles Pourteau and wife Frances, also of Westlake; four grandchildren, Lacey Treece and fiancé Reverend Jason Myer, Kyle Barrow and wife Hailey, Lindsey Jones, and Morgan Andreas and husband Colin; and four great-grandchildren, Myla, Madyn, Blair, and Greyson. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alton Pourteau, James Pourteau, and Leo Pourteau; and one sister, Ruby Greer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Apostolic Temple, 2711 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pastors Rick Treece, Jordan Anderson, and Julien Ryder will officiate. Interment will follow at LeBlanc Cemetery in LeBlanc, Louisiana. Visitation on Monday will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers for the service will be James Wells, Paul Simoni, Dale Andrews, Mike Fontenot, Keith Ryder, and Kyle Barrow. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Rion, John Conley, and Junior Bushnell.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given to their beloved husband and father, to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice, especially Anne Marie Barry.
