Robert Earl "Uncle Bob" Loomis, Jr., 87, of Sulphur, passed away on January 13, 2026, in Lake Charles, LA.
Bob or "Uncle Bob" as he was known to everyone, was born November 26, 1938, in Monroe, LA. to Robert Earl Loomis, Sr. and Mildred Clayton Loomis. Although he was born in Monroe, he was raised in Maplewood / Sulphur and graduated from Sulphur High School. He then went on to attend Louisiana Tech as well as several other universities. Uncle Bob proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard.
His career in the petro chemical industry was vast, having worked from Carlyss to Canada. He started working at W.R. Grace, Carlyss then Cities Service, Butyl Rubber refinery, Citgo pipeline in Lake Charles and Sour Lake, Texas and helped start up a syncrude joint venture in Canada in 1978.
Uncle Bob wasn't all work and no play. Bob had the privilege of playing chess on Citgo's Team in Venezuela at the Olympic Games and becoming a Master Gardener of the Lake Charles group was one of his proudest accomplishments.
Uncle Bob's legacy will have to go down as Possum Bayou Farms, Inc. where he converted 301 acres of prime Mississippi Delta farmland into the CRP / Crop Restoration Program. All hardwood trees were hand picked by Uncle Bob and the "Farm" was a joint venture with his nephews keeping in all in the family. Most of the time from October through January was spent on a John Deere tractor, a four wheeler or a Polaris side by side at the deer camp in Concordia Parish.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Clara Loomis, his parents, sister; Shirley Loomis King, son-in-law; David Warren Texada.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son; Robert Earl "Trey" Loomis, III, daughter; Terrie Bacon Texada, two grandsons; Wesley Hannon Texada and Kary Clayton Texada, two great-grandsons; Cameron Wade Texada and Hunter Grayson Texada, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Per Uncle Bob's wishes no funeral services will be held and the family has entrusted cremation arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home.
