Robert Lee Monk, Jr.
Iowa – Robert Lee Monk, Jr., 80, passed away in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings on Saturday, March 21, 2015.
Robert was born in Alexandria on October 22, 1934 to the late Robert Lee Monk, Sr. and Lois Rougeau Monk. He was a graduate of McNeese and ULL (formerly SLI) and was retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board as principal of J. I. Watson Elementary in Iowa and was a member of the Retired Teacher Association. He served in the U. S. Army for 4 years. Robert was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Iowa 1st United Methodist Church.
Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nelda Bruce Monk; children, Dana Frankland (Charles) of Sulphur, David Monk (Gretchen) of Bell City, Daniel Monk (Donna) of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Lantz, Catherine, Emily and Kyle Monk and nephew, Jason Taylor. Preceding him in death are his parents; infant child, Robert Monk, III; sister, Patricia Monk Taylor; brother-in-law, Jimmy Taylor; and niece, Nancy Taylor.
Funeral services are Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Iowa 1st United Methodist Church with Dr. David DeWitt and Dr. Doug Ezell officiating. Burial will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation is Sunday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will resume in the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
