Merl Roger “Rod” Bolin, 88, of Welsh, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday morning, August 27, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Rod was born on August 18, 1937, in Kopperl, Texas, the son of Jake Bolin and Minnie Mae (Moss) Bolin. He attended school at Kopperl High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge.
Rod is survived by his four children: Dane Bolin (Cathy), Todd Bolin (Susan), Heath Bolin (Kristi), and Robin Abraham (Paul); his special great-niece Tabitha Fruge (Ben); eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Gloria Bolin; his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
Rod enjoyed piddling in his shop and spending time with friends and family. His presence, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa, LA, Johnson and Brown Chapel.
