Roe Richard

May 26, 1940 — February 24, 2017

Roe Richard, 76, of Moss Bluff passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mr. Richard was born in Sweetlake, raised in Gillis and has lived the past forty five years in Moss Bluff. He worked as a Rice and Soybean farmer and for the past thirty years has worked for Sonny Mathis Construction. He could be found, most any morning, at the Five Star Quick Stop in Moss Bluff where he was the “resident” coffee maker and also delivered a “to go” cup to his dear friend every morning. He loved French Music and dancing. During his younger years, Mr. Richard took great pride in following his boy’s baseball games and rodeo events and his daughter’s softball games. He helped form the 1st girls fast pitch softball league in Moss Bluff recreation. His later years, he enjoyed following his grandchildren’s events. Mr. Richard was a member and past President of Ward 1 Drainage Board, Farm Bureau Board of Directors and for countless years won the Livestock Show and Rodeo “Bearded Man” contest. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. He leaves behind the memory of a selfless man with an overwhelming desire to help others, expecting nothing in return. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick witt that often brightened the day.

He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann LeBato Richard of Moss Bluff; four children, Tony Richard and wife Sandra of Iowa, Alvin Richard of Dayton, TX, Tim Richard and wife Christy of Moss Bluff and Lauren Gilley and husband Wade of Moss Bluff; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Emmeline, Jessica and Ethan Richard and Gaige and Jack Gilley; two brothers, Eldon Richard of Gillis and Charles Richard of Topsy; one sister, Michelle Fawcett of Ragley and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Joseph and Editha Matte Richard and grandson, Jared Richard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father John Huckaby will officiate. Interment will follow in Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home.
