Roger Benoit, 77, a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, passed away Wednesday April 21, 2021 in an Alexandria care facility.
Mr. Benoit was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was educated in the Catholic school system, a student of St. Margaret’s first year and a graduate of Landry High School. He worked as a Butcher in Kinder and then began his career as a cook offshore. He was a fantastic cook and later bought into Southern Spice Restaurant where he taught many new friends tips of the trade, as well as, established friendships that he held very close in his heart. He also taught his extended family his secret to signature dishes and the value in timing them just right. Grilled steaks, pork roast, lemon bars and pineapple upside down cake were a few of his specialties. Mr. Benoit enjoyed working with Jeff and Bobby from time to time at A Daisy A Day. He also enjoyed playing a winning hand of Poker and keeping an immaculate lawn. He took great pride in dressing well and looking nice. Mr. Benoit will be most remembered for being easy to love.
He leaves to honor his memory, one sister, Vickie Fontenot (Roland) of Basile; one brother, Lane Benoit of Lake Charles; son of heart, Jeff Manuel (Bobby) of Lake Charles; daughter of heart, Danita LeLeux (Myron) of Lake Charles; grandson of heart, J-Allen Manuel of Lake Charles; extended family and friends of Southern Spice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leana Harris, Roberta Houston and Maye Jones; one brother, Virgil Benoit and mother of heart, Wilona Manuel Henry.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 PM Sunday April 25, 2021 at Lake City Baptist Church. Deacon George Carr will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service in the church.
