Ron Schultz

January 10, 1947 — May 14, 2026

Sweet Lake

Ronald "Ron" Schultz, 79, a lifelong resident of the Sweet Lake community, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, peacefully at his home.

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Ticonderoga as an aircraft mechanic. After returning home to Southwest Louisiana, he took to the skies as an agricultural pilot, flying Stearman crop dusters. In addition to his work in aviation, he farmed rice and soybeans. Later, he dedicated himself to public service as a patrol deputy with the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office, where he served until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and spending time outdoors - especially hunting, fishing, and birdwatching. Ron also had a special love for Miniature Schnauzers and, over the years, took great joy in adopting and rescuing them.

Ron is survived by his children, Felisha (Scott) Nunez, Brett (Kelly) Schultz, and Suzanne Schultz; his grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Gilmore, Evan (Casey) Schultz, Samantha Schultz, Ellie (Chance) Nunez, and Kane Nunez; and his great-grandchildren, Kai and Cora Gilmore, Charlie Rose Schultz, and Blaire O'Quain. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Carole (Rudy) Broussard, Martin (Glenda) Schultz, Wayne (Cheryl) Schultz, and Lela Derouen, and many special friends who became like family over the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Young Schultz; his parents, Arthur and Dorothy Schultz; and his grandson, Jarrett Nunez.

Funeral services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa, with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM.
