Ronald Gene Roberts 1950-2024
Craftsman, master carpenter and master of laissez les bon temps rouler, he worked hard and played hard his entire life. The oldest of four brothers, he learned a love of family and the great outdoors from his mother and father in the landscapes of northern New Mexico and Oklahoma. Then he found Louisiana, or Louisiana found him and became his home. He loved fireworks, food, family and festivals…really any excuse to pass a good time. As with so many, he found getting old to be a pain in the neck, a pain in the ass and most other places as well, considering his heart remained eternally young. A voracious reader, always reaching for something just beyond his grasp, he kept on reaching. Never the grand communicator, he preferred to show his love instead of verbalizing it. He always seemed to crack great jokes with quick wit and high intelligence, evidence to anyone who ever sat through an episode of Jeopardy with him or found themselves on the receiving end of his whimsy.
One final lament, recently shared… “Why are my friends all gone? I’m not singularly capable of keeping those great and beautiful dreams and escapades alive! I’ll tell what stories I can remember, but who’s gonna believe me? Who’s gonna care?” We all do…The perpetual life of the party, his light has gone out but we know he hopes the grand escapades continue, the beautiful dreams reach fulfillment and the party goes on.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Spillman Roberts of Sulphur and his brothers, Marty Roberts, David Roberts and Steve Roberts, all currently of Houston TX.; his son, Joshua Roberts along with his mother, Sandra Nevils Roberts, both of Kinder; his son, Dustin Roberts along with his granddaughters, Evalyn and Aurora Roberts, of Austin TX.; his grandchildren, Tyler Roberts of Princeton NJ, Brendon Roberts and Duncan White of Wellington FL, and Madison Roberts of Colorado Springs CO.; and his companion, Ms. BJ Read of Moss Bluff.
