Rose Marie Ducote Bordelon

September 3, 1928 — July 26, 2022

Rose Marie Ducote Bordelon was born on September 3, 1928, in Cottonport, Louisiana. A longtime resident of Lake Charles, she died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had the unique ability of making each person she met feel special by her kindness and attention to them. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Buddy, until his death in 2002. She lived in Cottonport and Marksville, LA, but moved several times throughout the years as Buddy’s typesetting skills took him to better jobs with the DeQuincy News and the American Press, finally settling in Lake Charles in 1966.

She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (Court Our Lady of Fatima #1506) and was one of the longest standing members/chairman for many years. She was famous for her candy-making skills at the annual Calca-Chew Festival and was the official soup maker for their annual Soup and Salad fund raiser. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Rose’s great friend, Sylvia Ardoin, for her thoughtfulness and kindness in Rose’s later years. Her friendship meant so much to Rose.

Left to cherish her memory (and they will!) are her sons: Jerry Bordelon and wife, Paula, of Lafayette; Bruce Bordelon and wife, Kathie, of Trenton, TN; and Chris Bordelon and wife, Theresa, of Spring, TX; grandchildren: Patrick Bordelon and wife, Cathryn, of Lake Charles; Ryan Bordelon and wife, Tracy, of Duson; Blake Bordelon of Lafayette; Andrew Bordelon and wife, Stephanie, of Niceville, FL; Jeff Bordelon and wife, Elaina, of Milan, TN; Paul Bordelon of Spring, TX; and Amy Bordelon of Spring, TX; 10 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful, loving nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents Valley and Isma Ducote; husband, C.R. (Buddy) Bordelon, Jr.; son, Carl Reiss Bordelon; three brothers, Sanford, Marvin, and Mansel; and by her three sisters-in-law whom she loved as sisters, Lorraine, Harriet, and Bertha.

Known to her grandchildren respectively as Big Mama, Maw Maw, Granny and Gree, she showered them all with love and kindness, making each one feel special. She loved to cook, to play games with the children and Pokeno with her friends. In fact, good food, family, friends and fun were all very important to Rose.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday July 29, 2022 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Deacon Ray Menard will officiate. Interment services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Friday will begin at 10:30 AM until the start of her Rosary service at 12:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Margaret Catholic Daughters, Court Our Lady of Fatima #1506, 2500 Enterprise Blvd., Lake Charles, LA 70601.
