Roy Mccullough

March 2, 1937 — September 30, 2020

Roy McCullough, 83, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:15 AM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Roy was born March 2, 1937 in Crowley, LA, where he was raised.  After graduating from Crowley High School, he married his bride of sixty-three years, Juanita.  He served his country for four years in the U. S. Air Force, and he worked for the better part of fifty years at Dimmick Supply Auto Parts.  In 1969, Roy made his way into the baseball scene, and coaching became a passion for him.  He coached boy’s hardball for a number of years and then moved into girl’s softball.  He coached his son and his daughters thru the years and stayed in girl’s softball long after his girls were finished playing.  Roy moved into umpiring for a few years, until his next passion came along, Roses.  He became a prominent Rosarian, and this became his next competition to overcome.  He did this with his wife, traveling and competing for years.  He was a member of the American Rose Society, Southwest Louisiana Rose Society and a credited Consulting Rosarian.  He was known for the beautiful table displays at the rose shows he attended.

Roy’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.  He loved Barbeques and eating out, mostly seafood.

Roy had a passion to be the best at whatever he did, which was a lot:  baseball, roses, gardening, genealogy, coin collecting, raising freshwater fish, bowling, and he loved watching McNeese Girl’s basketball… never missing a game.  He loved to fish, saltwater or freshwater, it didn’t matter.  He had a passion rarely seen in a person.  He always went full speed ahead in whatever he did.

He will be missed dearly by so many.  He loved his wife the same way he lived, with a tremendous passion; they didn’t make many like him.  He enjoyed life to its fullest, and he never backed down from anything that he wanted.  After Roy and his wife raised their children, they began enjoying life together.  They had a great time in their later years, going out to eat, playing at casino’s, and doing anything that made them happy – that is the example of a life well lived.  He had his time on Earth and made the best of it.  Till we meet again, enjoy your afterlife with all of your friends and relatives that passed before.  Watch over us; you will be missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Juanita Courville McCullough; son, Bryan McCullough; daughters, Debbie McCullough Primeaux and husband Jonathan, Cindy McCullough Chappell, and Melissa McCullough Palombo and husband Todd; brother, Gerald Rose and wife Pat; grandchildren, Josh McCullough and wife Melissa, Conner Chappell, Madison Chappell Goodfriend and husband Dylan, Andrew Palombo and wife Kaitlyn, Amanda Palombo Welch and husband Keivien, Brittany Primeaux Brown and husband Barry, and Daphne Primeaux Letlow and husband Lane; six great-grandchildren, McKenna and Arden Letlow, Blaine and Jonathan Arthur Brown, Karleigh Welch, and Adaline Palombo; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Bell and Earle McCullough and Elia Simon; and brother, Mason Rose.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.  Father Anthony Fontenot will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a rosary at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
