Roy, lovingly known to all as R. J., was born exactly 83 years before his death on July 27, 1940, to Arlie and Roy Joseph Dugas, Sr. in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The family lived in Donaldsonville until R. J. was 5 years old, then moved to Iowa.
R. J. was a Ragin Cajun 1964 graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He joined the Army Reserves with his brothers Paul and George. He served until June 1966. He and his wife, Sue, moved to Lake Charles and later settled in Iowa where they raised their family. He faithfully attended St. Raphael where he was a Eucharistic Minster, Lector, and Church Treasurer. He worked at Conoco as a chemist before retiring. It was his first and only job. In the final years of his life, he moved out to his piece of property “the country” where he had been raising cows and enjoying the outdoors for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters Jayme (Hunter) Vincent and Monique (Garth) Frenzel both of Sulphur, Jill (Garrett) Rogers of Paradise, Newfoundland; grandchildren Harrison (Ashlee) Ledbetter of Moss Bluff, Jennifer (Ben) Odell of Long Beach, California, Mary Jane Vincent of Houston, Texas, George Frenzel of Sulphur, Grace and Suzy Rogers of Paradise, Newfoundland and his brother, George (Penny) Dugas of Westlake, and his best friend, Ralph Foreman who cared for his cattle and home while he was away from home.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue LeBlanc Dugas (d.2009), late companion, Louise Fontenot (d.2018), parents, and brothers Paul Dugas of Moss Bluff and Phillip Dugas of Iowa.
R. J. will be remembered for his vegetable garden deliveries, social visits, dancing, bourre playing, and caring for his small and beloved herd of cattle.
Special thank you to Brighton Bridge Hospice and his wonderful caregivers Francy Sams, Laura Hall and Heather Moore for aiding R. J. and his family through this journey.
In of lieu flowers, the family asks for donations to St. Raphael Catholic Church.
In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and
sisters and bid them eternal rest forever and ever.
