With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Russell Thomas Hardy, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on November 8, 2025, at the age of 65. Russell was born in Kinder, Louisiana, and spent his life in Iowa, Louisiana, where he touched the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Russell, known for his infectious smile and gentle laugh, dedicated his life to serving his community. He spent over 40 years working at the Postal Service, where he was known for going the extra mile-delivering mail to numerous local businesses. His tenure also included more than 30 years with Capital One and eight years at JD Bank. Beyond these roles, Russell became an integral part of Iowa's fabric through various small jobs, volunteering relentlessly to support those around him.
A devoted Catholic, Russell was a lifelong member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, where he dedicated countless hours serving in various capacities. From preparing the altar as an altar boy to ushering at Mass and opening the church for every service, his faith was a guiding light in his life. Russell was also a proud member of the Iowa Knights of Columbus, where he attained the rank of 4th Degree and never missed a meeting. His commitment to community service extended to the local police department, where he became an honorary officer, always ready to lend a helping hand. Russell was a member and huge supporter of the Down Syndrome Association of Southwest Louisiana.
Russell will be remembered not only for his work and volunteerism but also for his love of Iowa sports, particularly the Iowa Yellow Jackets and football. He delighted in cheering for his team and sharing his passion for the games with those around him. His hobbies included creating imaginative structures from cardboard, collecting John Deere toy tractors, and forming connections through friendly morning coffee gatherings with his buddies.
Russell's warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. His ability to bring joy to everyone he met will be fondly remembered by all. He is survived by his beloved mother, Laura Hardy; his brother, Allen Ray Hardy (Jane Buffalo); his sisters, LaDonna Singletary (Bryan) and Karen Foreman (Keith); his nephews, Jody Singletary (Kenzie), Ross Hardy; and his niece, Jill Leger (Terry); his sister-in-law, Renee Hardy; his great nieces, Alivia Singletary, Gracie Jo Nunez, and Addisyn Singletary.
In honor of Russell's remarkable life, funeral services will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Iowa, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church on November 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary prayer at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St Raphael Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Knights of Columbus, Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Leger, Jody Singletary, and Ross Hardy. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of the man who brought so much joy and love to our lives.
Russell Hardy was a man who outlived his disability, proving that the strength of the heart is far greater than any physical challenge. His place in our hearts will remain forever, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Ray Hardy; his grandparents, Asa and Mattile Hardy, Dedier and Eula Granger; his niece, Kayleigh Foreman.
