Ruth Evelyn Soto, 88, passed away peacefully at 12:11 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was born on April 8, 1938, in Mansfield, Louisiana. Her life was rooted in faith, family, and service.
While living in Baton Rouge, LA, in the late 1950’s, Ruth met and married the love of her life, Heberto A. Soto. Together, they shared many wonderful years, including time spent living in Caracas, Venezuela.
A faithful Christian, Ruth was a life-long member of Eastwood Pentecostal Church, where her faith remained steady and was a guiding presence throughout her life. She was a woman of strength, compassion, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.
Ruth devoted over 20 years of her life caring for others as a nurse, both in hospitals and nursing facilities. She found fulfillment in offering comfort and compassion to countless patients and families. After retiring from nursing, she continued serving the community as a valued associate with Walmart for 16 years.
Above all, she was a proud and loving mother who raised five sons with determination, grace, and unconditional love. She had a joyful and adventurous spirit, always ready to travel or embrace a new experience.
Ruth found great happiness in time spent with family, especially, “her boys” and grandchildren, who were the center of her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Heberto Soto; her son, Harris Soto; her father, H. L. Butler; her mother, Ruby Mae Wilks Butler; her stepmother, Lottie Butler; and her brothers, Gerald and Joe Wilks.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Ricky Soto and wife Denise, Hector Soto and wife Roxann, Helio Soto and Tico Soto; her grandchildren, Nick Soto, Kristine Johnson and husband Jordan, Blake Soto and wife Leigh, Dalton Soto and wife Jessica, Andrew Soto and wife Dena, Chloe Soto, Joe Landry, and Alisa Landry; along with five great-grandchildren.
Ruth’s life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to live through her family and the many lives she has touched. May she rest in the peace of the Lord that she so faithfully served.
