Iowa – Ruth Witherwax, 87, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 in her home surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born in Woodlawn, LA on December 21, 1929. She was a graduate of Iowa High School. During Ruth’s early life, she was very active in the lives of her children through assisting as a parent sponsor for both Rayne High School and Basile High School bands. Her creativeness was evident throughout her life through cake decorating, flower arranging and sewing. She was also a member of Women on Missions and Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband of 68 years, Burton Witherwax; children, Shirley Witherwax, Theron Witherwax (Charlotte), Krista Sanderson (Wally), Dwight Witherwax (Kim), Renee Shamblin (Michael), Katheryn Darbonne (Terry); 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her birth parents; Archille Miller and Polyma Breaux; adopted parents, Alex (T.B.) and Mary Corbello; sisters, Lillian Broussard, Sylvia Guillory, Betty Johnson; brothers, Eddie, Clarence, Burt, Dewitt, Albert and Irvin “Buffalo” Corbello.
Funeral services are Monday, November 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Dore Langley officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and will resume on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.
