Sae Ogi Cournoyer, 95, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family.
Sae was born in Fukuoka, Japan. She met her husband, Richard Cournoyer Sr., in the early 1950's while working at the commissary on base. Their relationship grew into a lifelong marriage, and together they spent more than two decades in Japan before relocating their family to the United States in 1974 following a medical emergency involving their eldest son.
Family was at the center of Sae's life. After settling in Southwest Louisiana, she embraced her role as a homemaker and took great pride in creating a home for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who expressed her love in many ways.
Sae also had a natural talent for sewing, crocheting, and knitting, but sewing by far was her gift. She loved being well dressed, and enjoyed fashion. She made custom clothes for herself and for her daughter and even designed and created her daughter's wedding dress.
Sae is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Richard Cournoyer Sr.; her daughter, Kim Tassin; her grandchildren, Monica Theriot (Corey) and Derrick Tassin; and her great-grandchildren, Trey Young, Drake Young, and Brody Young.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Richard Cournoyer Jr. and John Cournoyer.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.
