Saint Elmo Sartin Jr., affectionately known as "Mo," passed away peacefully at his home in Westlake, Louisiana, on April 20, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born on February 26, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Elmo spent part of his childhood in California, where he created cherished memories-frequent visits to Disneyland and even dancing on American Bandstand. At the age of 15, he moved with his family to Brookhaven, Mississippi, where he attended Brookhaven High School. He later enrolled at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. After his time there, he settled in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he began building both his career and his life.
A devoted Christian and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Westlake, Elmo lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service. He was deeply committed to his wife, Linda Sue Campbell Sartin, and held his family as his greatest treasure. His steady presence, quiet strength, and unwavering loyalty brought comfort and guidance to all who knew him.
Elmo built a distinguished career in banking that spanned decades. He began at First National Bank of Lake Charles, serving at the Northside and DeQuincy branches before being named manager of the Westlake branch in 1977. In 1996, he continued his work at Cameron State Bank, where he served as a branch manager, later becoming a commercial lender at the Nelson branch, and ultimately rising to regional manager. He concluded his career as Senior Vice President and Commercial Lender with IberiaBank, retiring after many years of dedicated service to his community.
He was a committed civic leader and gave generously of his time. Elmo was a founder and longtime member of the West Cal Kiwanis Club, a past president and active member of the West Cal Chamber of Commerce, and served on the board of the Lake Charles Tourist Commission. He also served as past president of Lake Charles Ducks Unlimited, reflecting his deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Above all, Elmo was a devoted family man. As the proud patriarch of his family, he was a beloved father to his daughters and a cherished grandfather. His influence helped shape strong, confident women, and his legacy lives on through the generations he guided with love and intention. He had a gift for making each person feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for.
He found great joy in the outdoors, especially in duck hunting, where he built lasting friendships and created meaningful traditions. Nothing brought him more happiness than time spent in a duck blind with friends and sharing those experiences with his daughters. He also had a lifelong love of music and dancing, bringing energy and joy to those around him. Holidays were especially meaningful-he had a special way of making each one memorable for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zenolla Virginia Sartin and Saint Elmo Sartin Sr., his sister, Carol Ann Sartin Passmore, and his nephew, Quentin Brody Hardesty.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Sue Campbell Sartin; and their five daughters: Emma Charles Downey and her husband, Scott Downey; Virginia Jane Henning and her husband, John Henning; Melissa Carol Conrad and her husband, Daryl Conrad; Sherri Diane LaCoste and her husband, Frank LaCoste; and Maeghan Sartin Montalbano.
He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Hillary Elizabeth Henning Turton and her husband, Jack Joseph Turton; Austin Sumner May; John David Henning; Isabel Grace May; Warren Thomas Henning; Cole Allen Conrad; Kalyn Rae Conrad ("BB"); Meredith Jane Henning; Kai Ayden LaCoste; and Claire Elizabeth Conrad.
He is further survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sheila and Keith Hardesty; his dear friend, Norbert Maputi; along with many extended family members and close friends who became like family.
A funeral for Elmo will take place Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 2 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff with burial to follow at Westlake Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2026 from 5 PM - 8 PM, and will resume Saturday at noon before the service.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice for the compassionate care provided in his final days. They are especially thankful to Dr. Jody George and his wife, Amy, for their kindness and support, and to Pastor Rocky East and his wife, Callie, for their prayers and spiritual guidance. Their presence brought great comfort and peace during a difficult time.
Elmo's legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
