With profound love and sorrow, we announce that Sally Ann Nelson Guillory, 80, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her devoted family. In her final days, she was blessed with visits from many cherished friends and family members who loved her deeply and came to say goodbye before she was called home by her loving Father.
Sally was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles and a proud graduate of Barbe High School. She dedicated her life to nurturing others, especially through her calling as a Head Start teacher. She was not just an educator but a guiding light to many. Parents often requested for their children to be placed in her class, knowing they would be loved and encouraged. As one former student fondly shared, "Without her, we wouldn't have learned the basics to get through life." Sally treated every student as her own, instilling confidence, compassion, and a love for learning.
Her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout member of Christ the King Catholic Church, throughout her life Sally sang joyfully in the choir, served faithfully as a lector, and was a constant presence at the Monday Prayer Meetings at the Catholic Charismatic Center. Her television was often tuned to EWTN, rosary in hand or tucked in her pocket, always ready to lift someone in prayer. Her relationship with Christ was deeply personal, and her life was a reflection of her unwavering faith. As St. Augustine wrote, "Our hearts are restless, Lord, until they rest in you." Now, Sally rests peacefully and eternally in God's presence.
Sally's love for life was best displayed through her time with family. She found joy in traveling across the country and sailing to nearly every island in the Caribbean, always happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Whether it was dancing to music, entertaining guests, or sharing a warm meal, Sally's vibrant spirit filled every room.
Known lovingly as "A Mother to Many," she was more than a mother to just her children. She was a friend, confidante, prayer warrior, and guiding light to countless others. Her gentle wisdom, constant prayers, and boundless love left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Sally was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a true matriarch. Through every joy and challenge, she stood steadfast beside her family, always their greatest supporter and source of strength. Her proudest achievement was raising her children to be faithful and grounded in God, just as she was.
Those left to cherish her memory and carry her legacy forward include her beloved husband and partner in life, Hubert Victor Guillory; her daughters, Josette Marie Guillory Thompson and Dina Michelle Guillory Granger (Tim); daughter-in-law, Holiday Dawn Guillory; grandson, Caleb Clark (Christina); and great-grandchildren, Emma, Khloe, Wyatt, and Bree. Brothers Wallace Micheal Nelson (Lou) and Ted Anthony Nelson (Liz) and Sister-In-Law Janis Nelson and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Wayne Guillory; her parents, Vinton Joseph and Bertina Rita Orsot Nelson; and her brothers, Paul Donald Nelson (Sheila) and Joseph Larry Nelson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Lake Charles officiated by Monsignor Danny Torres. Sally will be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.
Her memory will remain etched in our hearts forever. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
