Salvador Laborio Streva

May 18, 1936 — January 18, 2020

Salvador Laborio Streva, 83, died January 18, 2020, in a local care facility, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Los Angeles, California to Guisippe and Lucy Leggio Streva, Salvador moved to Lake Charles at the age of four.  He was a 1954 graduate of Lake Charles High School.  He served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1954-1962 and was honorably discharged as Yeoman 3rd Class.  He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad freight office for forty-four years, retiring as Clerk in 1988 and helped to organize the SPELC Credit Union by serving on the Supervisory Committee from 1960 to 1968.

Salvador adored his Catholic faith, serving as an usher at St. Margaret Catholic Church from 1981 until 2018.  He enjoyed attending McNeese football games and was a member of the Cowboy Club since 1997.  He also enjoyed eating daily at the Southern Spice Restaurant and Grill where he made many new friends.    Salvador was a man of high morals and integrity with a contagious smile.  He enjoyed socializing with anyone who stepped into his path, as was evidenced by the many new friends he met as an avid Prien Lake Mall walker.  Having lost his parents at a young age, he valued precious time spent with his loved ones.  Salvador’s greatest joys in life were his family and friends.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are two daughters, Chrissy Streva of Lake Charles, and Anne Smith and husband David of Houston, Texas; his former daughter-in-law, Carolyn  Streva of Henderson, Nevada; two sons, Nick Streva, also of Lake Charles, and Mike Streva and Robin Graves of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Jacqueline Camalo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Streva.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at St. Margaret Catholic Church.  Father Sam Orsot will officiate.  Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, January 20 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved father to Rosewood Nursing Home of Lake Charles.
