Sam K. George, 95 passed away on September 15, 2015 in a local care center. Sam joined the Army in 1942 serving in WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1946. While stationed at Fort Polk, Sam met Hazel Eve David while on leave during a visit to his Aunt Josephine Issac's house near D.S. Perkins School in Sulphur, LA. Sam and Hazel married in 1947 and moved to his hometown of Walsenburg, Colorado. After 3 years they moved back to Sulphur at which time he opened Your Food Store "Sams" and remained a local business for 42 years until his retirement and closing in 1993. Sam is survived by 3 his sons, David George and wife Nancy, Jeff George and wife Marilyn and Jim George and wife Evelyn; 4 sisters, Edna Ferendelli , Dorothy Tomsic, June VanSchoyck, and Sherma Jerant; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Eve George and his son, Hal Brent George. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10 A.M. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Maplewood Dr. in Sulphur with Rev. Ally Perry officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 5-9 P.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the funeral home from 8 A.M. until time of leaving for the church. The family would like to thank all the friends, patrons, and employees that touched Sam's life throughout his many years. The family would also like to thank Mrs. Evelina "Princess" Fontenot, Dr. Maureen Lannan and the many others who cared for Mr. George.
