Sandra Elkins Martin

Sandra Elkins Martin, 73, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Martin was born on September 13, 1945 in Lake Charles, LA to Dewey and Erline Jinks Elkins.

Sandra graduated from LaGrange High School in 1963. She moved to New Orleans in 1969 and later moved back to the Lake Charles area where she worked as a dental assistant and oral surgical assistant for Dr’s Corley and R.H. Alexander.

Sandra was described as a “mover and shaker”, someone who loved to begin and organize projects. As an active member of Boulevard Church of Christ, she loved to be involved at every level. She was an organizer and lead teacher for the Rubies Sunday School Class; organizer of Teacher Appreciation Banquets, valentine dinners, and Christmas parties; lead decorator for showers and 39’ers events and helped with baby celebration events. Sandra co-led her neighborhood association, and the “Same Time Next Year” group of friends who have met every year for the past 27 years, as well as coordinating the LaGrange Class of 1963 class reunion. She loved to exercise and meet with her senior exercise group at Gigi’s.

Sandra was a loving mother and grandmother, hosting the annual “Camp Maw-Maw” for her grandchildren.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Louis Martin along with her sister Dewellen Elkins and brother Jared Elkins.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Kim Martin Martinez (Kenneth) of Houston, TX and Byron Martin (Michelle) of Westlake, LA along with her 5 grandchildren Blake and Bryce Martin, and Carter, Zach and Mia Martinez. She also leaves her sister Donna Elkins Welch and Scott Elkins.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 2-4PM at Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 4PM, officiated by Paul Franks. A private burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral home.
