Sandres LaBove, 88, of Sweetlake passed away at 10:49 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in his residence.
Mr. LaBove was born on March 6, 1935 in Sweetlake where he lived all of his life. He was a graduate of Grand Lake High School. Mr. LaBove began his career in the oil field and after 25 years he began working for the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office as a correction officer until retiring 18 years later in 2004. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
He took great pleasure in spending time outdoors where he could often be found hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Louise LaBove of Sweetlake; children, Sandy McFarland of Fittstown, OK, Jody LaBove (Heather) of Fittstown, OK, and Clint LaBove (Chellie) of Sweetlake; nieces, Donna Verzwyvelt (John) of Sweetlake and Helen Conner (Duke) of Pecan Island; eleven grandchildren, Ashley LaBove, Lance McFarland (Emily), Teri Fruge (Jeremy), Clint McFarland, Hunter Bedsole (Shyann), Will LaBove (Kerby), Walt LaBove, and Luke, Alex, Paul, and Levi LaBove; and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joseph D. LaBove; daughter, Jolene LaBove; great grandson, Coy Fruge; sister, Barbara Bourriague; niece, Peggy Conner; and nephew, David Bourriague.
A funeral mass will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Sweetlake-Grand Lake Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church hall at 10:00 AM and continue until the start of the mass with a rosary being recited at 12:00 PM.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Harbor Hospice and at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion given to Mr. LaBove and his family during this time.
