Sarah Jo Keller Duplechin

Sarah Jo (Keller) Duplechin, 70, a longtime resident of the Sulphur area, passed away on the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2017 in a local hospital. Born November 6, 1946 in Lake Charles, Sarah graduated from Lake Charles High School. She was a dedicated employee and worked many years at several jobs including telephone operator at South Central Bell, financial accountant at Stine Lumber, as well as Stockwell Sievert. Sarah enjoyed most of all her time spent substitute teaching at Moss Bluff Middle School and for much of the last decade she worked as a payroll clerk at Southwest Daily News in Sulphur until her retirement in 2015. She kept everyone on their toes and she will be greatly missed. Sarah had struggled with ill health for a number of years but her passing still came as a shock to those who knew and loved her. Sometimes the life of the party, sometimes shy, definitely big hearted and always honest, she sometimes hid her softer side beneath a tough exterior. No matter what, Sarah made an impact on you. She loved good Cajun food and family get-togethers, never coming empty-handed and usually packing a bowl of her famous and delicious shrimp salad or hot cheese dip. She was known to have a bark that was worse than her bite but once you met her, she was your friend for life — truly unforgettable. Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, James “Jimmy” Carl Duplechin; and many nieces and nephews, greats and great-greats. Her cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home and in accordance with Sarah’s wishes, no service was held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
