Joanne Boyd Torres

Joanne Boyd Torres, 93, of Lake Charles passed away at 11:17 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Torres was born on July 29, 1932 in Kimberly, ID and moved to Lake Charles eleven years ago to be closer to family. She lived at the Veranda Retirement Community where she enjoyed participating in many activities offered to the residents.

Born with a heart for service and a spirit of adventure, Mrs. Torres dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her nursing journey by earning her degree from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in New York in 1954 and attended Northwest Nazarene College in Idaho. Her calling led her across the country as a traveling nurse, touching countless lives with her compassionate care and professional excellence.

Eventually, she found her true home in Alaska, where she retired as a Registered Nurse. Alaska held a special place in her heart, and she spent many joyful years there surrounded by nature and peace.

Beyond her career, Mrs. Torres was known for her beautiful singing voice and deep love of music and was a woman of strong faith.

Mrs. Torres was blessed to have married the love of her life and become the mother of seven wonderful children. She cherished her husband and children with all of her heart.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry Torres (Barbara) of Baton Rouge, LA, Linda Reed of Deville, LA, Nelda Torres of Leesville, LA, Darrell Torres of Houston, TX, Danny Torres (Shelly) of Baton Rouge, LA, Donnie Torres (Twana) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Kathy Schramm of Dixon, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and very special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Torres; parents, William and Ida Boyd; two brothers, LaVern Boyd and Art Boyd; and three sisters, Esther Reed, Eunice Smith, and Ida Boyd.

Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Joanne’s last wishes-“My uppermost wish for the family is to meet them again in my Heavenly home. I will greet you with all the love I have felt for you over the years. I have had a great life being a Torres, having a loving and wonderful, kind husband for many years with the extra benefit of having wonderful children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren that I claim as my own. I want you to know how I feel. I have been truly blessed. You have treated me with concern and love far beyond what I deserve. This is appreciated more than you will ever know.”
