Sherman And Becky Bernard

Sherman R. Bernard and Rebecca “Becky” Bernard, both passed away within hours of each other on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in a local hospital.

Sherman was born May 7, 1954 in Lafayette, LA and lived most of his life in Lake Charles, LA.  He worked for numerous years as a security guard at Billy Navarre and was always a dedicated provider for his family.  He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Becky was born June 21, 1957 in Lake Charles, LA, where she was a lifelong resident and a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church also.  She will always be remembered as a great cook and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who loved her family dearly.

They are both survived by their sons, Sherman A. Bernard and wife Malinda of Jeanerette, LA, Anthony R. Bernard of Starks, LA, Aaron C. Bernard and Anthony C. Bernard, both of Sulphur, LA; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Sherman is also survived by brothers, Harold Bernard of Abbeville, LA and Jeff Bernard and wife Tammy of Ragley, LA and sisters, Mary Courville of DeQuincy and Tina Gary and husband Billy of Iowa, La.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Emelien Bernard and Joyce Taylor and sisters, Sheila and Barbara Bernard.

Becky leaves behind two brothers, Melvin Williams and wife Sharon and David Williams, all of Lake Charles.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Betty Williams.

Their funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at University Baptist Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Samuel Orsot will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
