Sherman Lee Hicks

Apr 7, 1941 — Sep 3, 2026

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Sherman Lee Hicks, 85, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was born April 7, 1941, to James and Maggie Rivers Hicks.

Sherman was a graduate of Leesville High School and continued his education at McNeese State University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He later graduated from Northeast Louisiana University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with a degree in Accounting.

He began his professional life teaching business at Hicks High School before embarking on a career in law enforcement. Sherman first served as a patrol officer with the Leesville Police Department and later joined the Louisiana State Police. During his years with the State Police, he rose through the ranks to become Captain of Troop H. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Sherman began another chapter of his career as Field Manager for Sweetlake Land & Oil Company.

While his work was an important part of his life, Sherman especially cherished the time he spent with his family. Family vacations brought him great joy, and he took particular pleasure in being a grandfather. He loved supporting his family and was always happy for an opportunity to spoil his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Bradley O’Neal Hicks; daughter, Kelli Suzette Hicks Royer and husband Roger; grandchildren, Roger Lendon Royer II, Willa Katherine Royer, Makinley O’Neal Hicks, Rivers Lee Royer, and Carson Bradley Hicks; and great-grandchildren, Brett Wayne, Brinley Nicole, Jameson Beaux, Bexley Mae, and Wyatt Kade.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Nell Hicks; his parents, James and Maggie Rivers Hicks; and his siblings, James Arleigh Hicks, Jr., Janice Hicks Knapp, Melvin Hicks, and Travis Wayne Hicks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church, 1800 Country Club Road, with his great-nephew, Rodney Hicks, presiding.
