Shirley Ann Hansen Shelton

Shirley A. Shelton, 83, of Westlake passed away Saturday, November 05, 2016 in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Shelton was born, raised and educated in the state of Iowa.  She lived 43 years in the Westlake area.  At the age of 19, she graduated from Beauty School in Cedar Rapids, IA.  She managed many hair salons, including the JC Penney Salon here in Lake Charles for 30 years and then worked part time at Jimmy's Hair We Are for a few more years before retiring completely.  Her work ethic was immeasurable. Mrs. Shelton enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an avid reader.  She loved to have fun, especially in the sun, around a pool or on a beach.  She was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Moss Bluff where she was also a member of the Daughter’s of the King and the Altar Guild. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, five daughters, Theresa Scott of Moss Bluff, Heidi Lanier of Swansboro, NC, Robin Shelton stationed in Fort Knox, KY, Mitzi George and husband Kevin of Moss Bluff, Lori Puckett and husband Billy of Montgomery, AL; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and three sisters, Sandra Hansel Brown and Karen Hansel Becicka, both of Walford, Iowa and Patsy Hansel Stone of Edgewood, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Shelton; and infant son and infant daughter, her parents, Samuel and Marjorie Hansel; three brothers, Roger, Lester and Neil Hansel, and a sister, JoAnn Hansel Zemen. 

Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Moss Bluff.  The Reverend Ally Perry will officiate assisted by the Reverend Boo Kay.  A gathering of friends will begin at 10:00 AM in the church.
