On December 26, 2025, the world lost a vibrant soul, Shirley Marie Celestine, who departed this life surrounded by love and warmth, at the age of 68. Born on May 11, 1957, in Lafayette, LA, Shirley was a devoted mother, daughter, cherished sister, and beloved friend. She lived a life full of joy and connection, leaving an undeniable mark on all who knew her.

Shirley graduated from Iowa High School and retired from Robinswood School and Calcasieu Parish School Board, where her hardworking spirit and caring demeanor touched the lives of many students and staff alike. Known for her beautiful spirit, Shirley was a peacemaker who loved her family fiercely. She enjoyed backyard barbecues, live zydeco dances, trail rides and festive Mardi Gras celebrations. 

Shirley is survived by her loving son, Ray Celestine (Katrina), her devoted daughter, Raven Lewis (Jamar, Sr.), and her caring son, Sean Celestine (Madisyn). She will be dearly remembered by her grandchildren: Miylah, Mikalah, Brayden, Grayson, Kaysen, Ja'loni, and Emry Celestine. Shirley's legacy continues through these cherished relationships. She is also survived by her beloved father, George Celestine; siblings Janice Broussard (Elrick), Cornelia "Pokey" Celestine, Karen Bernard (Tony), Berline Bellard (Kimmy), and George "Jr" Celestine, Jr. She is also survived by her Godmother Georgiana "Meni" Simien, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Shirley's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor her legacy, on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa. The ceremony will be a joyous occasion, reflecting her love of family, dance, and life itself.

As we reflect on the beautiful spirit of Shirley Celestine, let us carry her light forward, cherishing our moments together, and celebrating the joy she brought into our lives. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Earline Charles Celestine, and her sister, Farrah Celestine.
