Shirley D. Reeves Conner, age 80, passed on Sunday, March 5, 2017. She was born on August 10, 1936 in Soileau, LA to Alcide and Meda Granger.
Shirley was united in marriage to Thomas Larry Reeves for thirty-eight years and had six children. After the death of “Larry”, she married Donald Paul Conner, who was laid to rest in 2008.
Shirley enjoyed traveling overseas with Larry as he worked to start up LNG refineries. While overseas, she would cook Cajun dishes for their friends. Shirley and Larry developed and maintained close friendships with people they met through Larry’s work.
Shirley taught her daughters how to play jacks, but neither could compete with her skill level. She wasn’t afraid to catch for her boys as they aspired to be baseball pitchers; she had numerous bruises to show for it. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and watching their sporting events. What was known to all, and will never be forgotten was her beautiful and infectious smile.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Brent Reeves and wife Julie, Reneé Reeves Herbstler, Phil Reeves and wife Belinda, Kim Reeves Rider and husband Gary, Scott Reeves and wife Terri; step-children, Kim Conner Self and husband Don, and Dale Conner; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Alcide and Meda Granger; infant, Patrick Reeves; sister, Helen Granger Lofton; and brothers, Cliff and Dreau Granger.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice and her special caregivers (aka, adopted sisters) Cathy McClure, Cindy Maitre and Yvonne Alfred for caring and loving Shirley like their own mother.
