Shirley Marie Trahan McIver

January 22, 1927 — August 29, 2025

Shirley Marie Trahan McIver, 98, of Lake Charles passed away at 2:53 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. McIver was born on January 22, 1927 in Houma, LA and resided in Lake Charles most of her life. A proud graduate of St. Charles Academy, Mrs. McIver went on to attend McNeese State University before earning her Registered Nurse degree from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She was also a member of the United States Nurse Cadet Corps, dedicating her early career to caring for others with compassion and professionalism.

Mrs. McIver was a devout Catholic and a long-standing member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Her commitment to her community was reflected in her active involvement in numerous organizations, including the Junior League of Lake Charles, the Planter’s League, the Garden Club, the Symphony Board, the Lake Charles Duplicate Bridge Club, and the Pioneer Club. Bridge was one of her greatest passions.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patti McIver; six grandchildren, Lindsay Lumpkin Colvin (Clay), Garrett McIver, William Blake, Whitney Brooks, Casey Brent, and Taylor Bryan Lumpkin; and eight great grandchildren, Mary Catherine Ledoux, Graydon Stone Colvin, Sarah Elizabeth Lumpkin, Bennett William Colvin, Abby Cate Lumpkin, Jack Parker Lumpkin, Lane Andrew Lumpkin, and Rhodes Clay Colvin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe McIver, Jr. and a son, Michael Kelly McIver.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. Monsignor Jace Eskind and Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until leaving for the church at 12:45 PM with a decade of the rosary being recited at 12:00 PM.

Memorials in her honor may be made to McIver Nursing Scholarship at McNeese State University.
