Shirley Ruth Stine Marshall

March 26, 1925 — January 3, 2019

Shirley Ruth Stine Marshall, 93, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 4:16 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Marshall was born March 26, 1925 in Bell City, LA, raised in Lake Charles and Cameron Parishes and has lived in Lake Charles for over seventy years.  Shirley and her husband, Rufus, loved to travel and for the last 30+ years took numerous tours which covered most of the lower 48 states, Alaska, and some areas of Canada and Mexico.  Both Shirley and her husband were charter members of Oak Park United Methodist Church, where they were faithful members for over fifty-two years.  Due to dwindling membership, the church closed in May 2009.  The Marshalls then became members of Fairview United Methodist Church, where they made many more Christian friends.  Mrs. Marshall will always be remembered for her wonderful smile and for the care she took of her family and love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed entertaining and cooking and always welcomed her extended family into her home during the holidays.

Mrs. Marshall is survived by her daughter, Beverly Branch and husband Oscar of Brandon, MS; son, Steven Marshall and wife Andrea of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Joel Branch and wife Andrea, Julie Pierce, and Lisa Marshall; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Marshall, Dylan Marshall, and Lennon Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-two years, Rufus Brown “R.B.” Marshall; parents, Philip and Docia Derouen Stine; two brothers; and one sister.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Reverend Charlie Langford will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 PM until the start of the service.
