Shirley Hollier Verrette

May 29, 1935 — Jul 15, 2026

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Shirley Hollier Verrette, 91, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

She was born on May 29, 1935 to Oscar and Louise Hollier, and was raised with her four brothers, Louis, Frank, George, and Jack. After graduating from Mamou High School, she attended USL for a couple of years before marrying her husband, Harold Verrette. They soon moved to Lake Charles and began their family with the birth of their sons, Dennis, Donald, and Patrick.

Shirley was a great boy-mom. She attended every sporting, scouting, CYO and any other event the boys were involved in. She taught them to cook and to clean and to be respectful young men. Most importantly, she shared her faith in the Catholic church and that was a mainstay in their lives. She worked as a Clerical Supervisor for the State of Louisiana Welfare Department until retirement. Always a good seamstress, her talent for smocking and embroidery and making beautiful dresses really shined when she became “Grandma” to granddaughters, Morgan and Kelley. And she was just as excited when her two grandsons, Jake and Nick, came along.

She and Harold were members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church where she served on the Altar Society and as a Catholic Daughter.

Preceding her in death is her loving husband of 65 years, Harold, her parents, and brothers Louis, Frank, and George.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dennis (Lisa), Donald (Shively), Patrick (Annette); brother, Jack Hollier; grandchildren and great-grandchildren – Morgan Verrette Nelson (Aaron) and their children, Olivia and Noah, Kelley Verrette Gueringer (Cody) and their children, Elijah and Roman, Jake Verrette (Millie) and Nick Verrette (Amelie); loving step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday July 20, 2026 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 5495 Elliott Road, with Msgr. Jace Eskind serving as Celebrant.
