Ragley – After a short but courageous battle with B Cell Lymphoma, Sid Cormier, 74, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 3:57 a.m. with his devoted wife and a dear friend at his side.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2017, in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley from 9 a.m. with a rosary at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in the church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Timothy Goodly officiating. His final resting place will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.
His wife of nearly 51 years, Sherilyn M. Cormier; son, Shane Jude Cormier of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Dean M. Trahan and her husband, Paul D. Trahan of Lafayette; brother-in-law, Delton J. Menard of Carlyss, and cousins will cherish memories of him. He was a wonderful husband, proud father, and good friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Marie Cormier and sister, Lois C. Demeritt.
Sid was a graduate of Roanoke High School and earned his degree and professional license as a Mechanical Engineer at USL (now ULL). He worked at local plants as an engineer and consultant for 17 years before owning and operating Cabinets by Sid manufacturing commercial cabinets.
Having a very inquisitive mind, Sid was first and foremost a problem solver. A member of NRA, Sid was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, astronomy, riding his motorcycle and kayaking. He had a lifelong love of learning, history, and a deep respect for veterans, especially those from WWII. A 43-year devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley, Sid served as an usher, on the Finance Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Sherilyn and Shane Jude extend heartfelt gratitude to family, friends, his doctors, nursing staff of the 4th & 5th floors of Christus St. Patrick’s Hospital and Heart of Hospice. A special thanks to Fr. Tim Goodly, his fellow parishioners at St. Pius X, Mike & Melissa Lawrence, Aldes & Roxanne Ogea, Stephen & Hannah Ogea, Terry & Vickie Leger, Clyde & Derrilyn Brisson, Maurice & Sharon Neel, Leona Hollingsworth, Judy Rogge, and Mel & Clara Pennartz for being with them every step of the way of their trial.
