Catherine “Sue” Hollenshead Pilgreen, 76, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on October 20, 2023, following a lengthy illness.
Sue was born on January 3, 1947, in Urania, Louisiana, to Mittie Katherine Reed Hollenshead and Thomas Leon Hollenshead. Sue was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. After she graduated from LA Tech, she met the love of her life, Kermit Pilgreen, and they married on December 2, 1967. Soon after, they moved to Lake Charles to begin their lives together. Sue then went on to receive numerous advanced degrees in Math, English, and Computer Technology from McNeese.
She taught for a total of 42 years, beginning her career at LaGrange Middle School, then going on to teach for Barb the first year they opened. She also taught Math and overseeing the Computer Science courses for 20 years.
She loved the Lord with all of her heart, and loved spending time with her family and friends, two of which have become the best friends, Norman and Marie Janes. Norm and Marie have been through many seasons of life with Sue and Kermit and stayed by their side even as Sue met Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Ellis Babcock, and her parents. She is survived by her husband, Kermit Pilgreen of Lake Charles, her brothers, Felder Harold Hollenshead of Spring, Texas, and Oliver Ray Hollenshead of Flint, Texas, and one sister, Frances Ethel Hollenshead Babcock of DeRidder, Louisiana, and numerous nieces, nephews, and dearly loved friends.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, but we know she is rejoicing in Heaven!
