Susan L. "Sue" Derouen

Susan L. “Sue” Derouen, 75, of Bell City is now dancing in the sky with her favorite dance partner, her husband. She passed away at 4:30 AM on Friday, December 14, 2018 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. Derouen was born on May 7, 1943 in Welsh. She was a 1961 graduate of Welsh High School where she was a Majorette and she along with her best friend, Sophie Fusilier, were chosen as members of the District 10-B All Star Team. When she married, she and her husband moved to Bell City and resided in the Welsh, Lake Charles, and Bell City areas all of her life. Mrs. Derouen later attended McNeese State University and graduated with a B.A. degree in education in 1975. In 1980 she earned her librarian certification before receiving her Master’s Degree in Computer Technology. Mrs. Derouen’s career was spent at Bell City High School until retiring in 2002.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church where she was active in the choir, Catholic Daughters, and taught Catechism. Mrs. Derouen also belonged to the Amicus Club where she and her husband were past King and Queen. She was a past member of the McNeese Cowboy Club and Bell City Booster Club. Mrs. Derouen enjoyed playing cards with her son and close friends, Kemble and Gerry Guillory, but her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed having her mother over every Sunday for dinner and she had a great love for the holidays.

Those left to cherish her memory are two children, Blaine Derouen of Lake Charles and Stacey Reber of Bell City; her mother, Buelah Louviere of Welsh; siblings, Will “Bill” Louviere (Vera) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Ronald Louviere (Jeanene) of Sulphur, LaDonna Atwell (Mike) of Holmwood, and Vernon Sonnier (Dale) of Welsh; grandchildren, Dustin Reber (Kaylin), Ryan Reber (Laura), Tyler Reber (Tiffanie); great grandchildren, Shailynn, Layne, Olivia, Jax, Stacie, and Navy; special nieces and caregivers, Beverly Guilbeaux (Lannie) and Brittney Atwell; as well as many other special nieces and nephews along with a very special long time friend, Kathy Savoie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Derouen; father, Will Louviere; brother, Richard “Dickie” Louviere and wife, Bobbie; in laws, Robert and Gertrude Derouen; and sister in law, LaDonna Hardy Romero.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 17, 2018 in St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The Rev. John Payne will officiate. Burial will follow in Derouen Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM and a Cursillo Rosary to follow. Visitation will continue on Monday from 11:00 AM until leaving for the church at 12:00 PM.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Harbor Hospice for their sincere care and compassion given to Mrs. Derouen and her family.
