Susan McFillen Pierce

July 19, 1952 — January 12, 2026

Lake Charles

Susan Elizabeth McFillen Pierce, 73, of Lake Charles who died on January 12, 2026 would be the first to say, “God in His time…”.

Susan was born in Lake Charles to Osmer Douglas “Doug” McFillen and Nola Mae Ross. The family owned the McFillen airport, which is the first place she worked with her mom. Over the course of her life, she held jobs at Books A Million, Lowes and as a caregiver of many elderly residents. She earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from McNeese State University. Her most meaningful work involved research and interviews to help her mother document the lives and notable events of Calcasieu and Cameron parishes. Together, they co-authored several books. Susan will be remembered for her giving and caring spirit and how she loved her animals, plants and more than anything, her grandchildren.

During her younger years, she played the piano at home, especially her favorite hymns. A member of University United Methodist Church, Susan had a deep faith and strong independent spirit. She could find a Bible verse or hymn line in perfect response to any and every situation. One of her favorites was, “It is Well with My Soul”.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Marshall McFillen and Dennis McFillen.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Don Pierce; daughter, Amanda Ceasar and grandchildren, Dennis Ceasar and Arianna Ceasar.

A Celebration honoring her life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, her family prefer donations be made to the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home of Southwest Louisiana, 3029 Beglis Parkway, Sulphur, LA 70663.
