Sybil Geneva Davis McCrosky, 95, a former resident of Woodlawn, Louisiana, passed away on July 16, 2025, at Autumn Care of Waynesville in Waynesville, North Carolina.
Sybil was born on August 20, 1929, in Toro, Louisiana, where she spent her early years before graduating from Pisgah High School. At the age of 18, she moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and began her career as a telephone operator. It was there she met the love of her life, Thomas "Pete" McCrosky. They were married on January 7, 1950, and shared 65 devoted years until Pete's passing in 2013.
In 1963, Sybil and Pete settled in Woodlawn, Louisiana, where they built a peaceful life on their cherished three-acre country property-what they fondly referred to as their "piece of heaven on earth." Sybil was known for her gentle spirit, unwavering strength, and deep love for her family and home.
A dedicated homemaker and avid gardener, Sybil found great joy in cultivating both vegetables and flowers. She and Pete also shared a passion for travel, exploring much of the United States in their camper, including unforgettable road trips to Alaska and Canada.
Sybil was a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Catholic Church in Lake Charles. She lived her life with quiet grace, devotion, and an abiding love for Jesus.
She is survived by her three sons: Thomas "Kirk" McCrosky and his wife, Linda, of Waynesville, North Carolina; Donald McCrosky and his wife, Jacquie, of Magnolia, Texas; and Ronald McCrosky and his wife, Tina, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; seven grandchildren: Katie Rogers of Pendleton, SC; Kristin Young of Asheville, NC; Megan Smith of Black Mountain, NC; John McCrosky of Orlando, FL; Christopher McCrosky of Tomball, TX; Thomas McCrosky of Marrero, LA; and Alexandria Simmons of Slidell, LA. She is also survived by her brother, Glyn Davis, and his wife, Sammie, of Coushatta, Louisiana.
She is also survived by two step-grandchildren: Rachael McCrosky of Atlanta, GA, and Joel Sullivan of Vallejo, CA.
Sybil has 11 great-grandchildren: Sean, Caitlin, Gabriel, Tove, Rhodes, Tristan, Madeline, Benjamin, Caroline, Ronan, and Remy. Sybil was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary McCrosky; her husband, Pete McCrosky; her sister, Ava Ann Stephens; her parents, Columbus and Monie Davis; and three infant siblings.
Sybil's legacy is one of kindness, faith, and enduring love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
