Thelma Sweeney Thibodeaux, 84, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, March 27, 2026 in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Thibodeaux was born in Iota, LA, raised and educated in Sulphur, LA and lived most of her life in Lake Charles.
She was a graduate of Sulphur High School and attended vocational school where she attained a Paralegal degree. She began working with local attorneys, worked several years for the District Attorney’s Office under Frank Salter and finished her career working for her husband.
Mrs. Thibodeaux was an avid golfer who began playing in her thirties until a few years ago. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at every golf course in Lake Charles and served nearly ten years as president of the Ladies Golf Association at Gray Plantation Golf Club. Throughout her golfing career, she competed in numerous tournaments and won club and senior club championships. She found great joy in her daughter sharing her passion, as they spent many cherished moments playing together and competing as a team.
Mrs. Thibodeaux love, love, loved shopping! Something she did not just enjoy but embraced with enthusiasm and was always only a phone call away for family in need of the perfect outfit, finishing touch or special gift. She created cherished memories shopping with her granddaughter and took great pride in lovingly spoiling her grandchildren. She was also their biggest cheerleader!
She carried that same sense of style into her daily life, never leaving home without being well dressed and put together from head to toe, her countless golf ensembles included. To know her was to admire not only her outward grace, but the pride she took in presenting herself with confidence and poise.
She enjoyed traveling, particularly to New Orleans, which she and her husband enjoyed as their favorite getaway.
She loved to laugh, be silly, and dance. Her joyful spirit will be greatly missed.
