Theresa Vidrine Hood was surrounded by family when she peacefully passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026.
She was affectionately known as "Grammie" by her grandchildren and "Tee," "Ms. Tee," "Momma Tee," or "Aunt Tee" by many friends from all walks of life. Wherever she went, she made people feel welcome and left those around her with lifted spirits. She especially enjoyed watching live music, dancing, and observing the birds and other wildlife behind her home.
Theresa was born on November 27, 1928, in a small house on Pujo Street in Lake Charles to Rita and Wilfred B. Vidrine. She graduated from Lake Charles High School, where she was a Kiltie and later a cheerleader. While attending McNeese, she was selected by actor Gregory Peck from a photo lineup as one of the "5 Beauties" for the McNeese Log and was crowned Miss McNeese in 1947.
Theresa met and fell in love with her husband, Warren E. Hood. They married on September 7, 1948, and together they raised five children. They built their life in Lake Charles and shared 49 years together until Warren's death in 1997.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol DeRouen, and husband, Randy, her son, Daryl Hood, and wife, Amy, her daughter, Jennifer Hood, daughter-in-law; Debra Hood, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many dear friends, and will all carry her memory with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her sons, Robert W. Hood and Gary B. Hood; her grandson, Parker Hood; her brother, sister, and parents.
Theresa’s funeral will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 31, 2026 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 935 Bilbo Street, with Father Ruben Buller serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Orange Grove Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home, 4321 Lake Street, on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM, and will resume on Friday at 12:00 Noon until leaving in procession to the church.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jorita Freeman, Theresa's devoted caregiver of more than six years, and to All Saints Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a children's charity of your choice.
