Theresa Chapman Smith

Theresa Chapman Smith, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 23, 1933, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, to Merrick and Aimee Deshotel Chapman.

Theresa will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was centered around her family. She had a special gift for making holidays meaningful and memorable, creating traditions that will be cherished for generations. She found great joy in cooking and baking for those she loved, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate the milestones and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Theresa also enjoyed bowling, spending time with close friends, and delighting others with thoughtful, unexpected gifts. Her gentle heart extended to her love of small animals, and in all things, she placed the needs of her family before her own.

Theresa's life was a quiet testament to love, generosity, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and kindness that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in the peace of God's eternal embrace.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Pamela Smith Wilson and husband Stephen, and Stephanie Smith Armentor and husband James Bruce; and her grandchildren, Jonathan Grant Wilson and wife Mariah, Grant Joseph Wilson and wife Courtney, Nicholas James DeVillier, Shea Roslyn Driscoll, Jared Christopher Guillory and wife Alexis Ann, and Garrett Patrick Guillory.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 66 years, Joseph Homer Smith; and her seven siblings.

Her funeral will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service, with a rosary being recited at 11:00 AM.
