Thomas Charles Zimmer

Thomas Charles Zimmer, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born on October 1, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Casper and Helen Schultz Zimmer.

Thomas was raised in Pittsburgh, where he attended St. Richard's All Boys School and faithfully served as an altar boy in his parish. His faith and strong sense of duty shaped the course of his life. He later served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during his military service, an experience he carried with pride.

While working at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Thomas met the love of his life, Ruth Griener. A supervisor mentioned there was a "cute girl" who worked there and suggested a double date. Thomas gladly agreed, and that simple introduction began a beautiful love story that spanned 65 years of marriage. Together, Thomas and Ruth built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and shared adventure.

Thomas loved to travel. He and Ruth explored Europe together and made many cherished memories along the way. Closer to home, he especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, where he and Ruth often traveled for fun and fellowship. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brightened every room, enjoyed fishing when he could, and remained a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout his life.

Thomas will be remembered for his sense of humor, and the deep devotion he had for his family. May he now rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before him, and may his memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth Griener Zimmer; his children, Jackie Hippman (Paul), and Michele McDougle (Robert Moore); his grandchildren, Tracy Albert (Spencer), Kate Trimm (Lucas), and Ethan McDougle; his great-grandchildren, Molly, Christopher, Daniel, and Harrison; and his sister, Joan Beck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Casper Zimmer, and Richard Zimmer; and his sister, Catherine Kaminski.

Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
