Una Mae Ortego

Una Mae Ortego, 94, of Lake Charles passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at a local nursing home.

Mrs. Ortego was born in Washington, LA on September 12, 1925 to Emma and Emar Vidrine. She will be remembered as a Sales Clerk at TG&Y in Lake Charles. She married the love of her life, Willie, while he was serving in WWII. They were married on January 21, 1945 while he was on leave. After the wedding, Willie deployed to Germany to continue his service until the end of the war.

Una Mae was one of eight children who loved being with family and friends. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed sewing and crafts. Among her creations were dolls and doll clothes. She was a hard-working home maker, and an excellent cook. She was famous for her fruitcakes and egg nog.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her beloved husband of 75 years, Willie Ortego; her children, Debbie Dilts of Lake Charles, and Brian Ortego (Robin) of Iowa, LA; one brother, Louis Vidrine of Baton Rouge, LA; ten grandchildren, David Pearce (Tracey), Kevin Pearce (Victoria), Jared Pearce (Allison), Mike Ortego (Lisa), Scott Ortego (Kara), Dana Lemons (Danny), Michelle Guillotte (Joey), Julie Walker, Beth Dilts (Bryan Theriot), and Alicia Perez (Steven); and nineteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Diane Pearce, Six siblings: Archille Vidrine, Pauline Ardoin, Azalie Landreneau, Cappell Vidrine, Belle Murphy, Joe Vidrine; Her son-in-law David Dilts; Her great grandson, Vincent Pearce; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Msgr. Vincent Sedita will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 10 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM, and will resume on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:00 until 9:30 AM.
