Velma Rose Manuel Chesson

Velma Rose Manuel Chesson, 79, of Lake Charles passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Chesson was born in Duralde, LA and lived most of her life in the Lake Charles area. She enjoyed crossword and find-a-word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader, visiting the library several days a week for countless years. She especially loved cooking for family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and social gatherings of friends in the court yard of their homes. Mrs. Chesson was a lady of faith and prayer and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family.  

She leaves to honor her memory, one son, Tommy Chesson of Lake Charles; two daughters, Kathy Hanks and husband Mike of Houma and Carolyn McFadden and husband Brent of Iowa; five grandchildren, Stacy Fike (Brad) of Dequincy; Joey Touchet (Jennifer), Courtney Gary (T-Boy) of Iowa, Melony Domingue of Duson and Melissa Henslee (Jimmy) of Frankford, DE; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Sara Richard (Harry) of Sulphur; dear friend, Teri Lege of Lake Charles and two “fur baby” grandchildren, Riley and Bella.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Henry Clifford Chesson; parents, Cleven and Corine Soileau Manuel and sister, Mary Jane McComb.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 29, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Very Reverend Anthony Fontenot will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday will be from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Thursday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
