Vickie Broussard Melanson, passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the age of seventy.
Born in Jennings on March 3, 1954 and raised in Woodlawn, Vickie graduated from Lacassine H.S. and McNeese State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 31 years and after retirement began working at St. Raphael Catholic Church as the administrative assistant and worked for 7 years as a Religious Coordinator/liturgy director and office manager for St. Raphael in Iowa and St. John the Evangelist in Lacassine.
Vickie was involved with many organizations at St. Raphael Catholic Church: Catholic Daughters of the Americas Ct. 1377 St. Raphael, and was Catholic Daughter of the year in 1983, and 2020. She started a Catholic Daughter (CDA) kid program in the State of Louisiana and started the first Catholic Daughter court in the State of Kentucky. Vickie also went to Nicaragua on Mission trip.
She was a member of the Jeff Davis Retired Teacher Association, Association of Professional Educators of Louisiana. She was the past president of the Jefferson Davis Teacher Organization, 4-H leader and cheerleader sponsor at Lacassine High School. Vickie was teacher of the year at Lacassine High School in 1988-1989, she was also named Who’s Who Among Teachers in 1992.
Vickie served as commissioner in charge and commissioner of elections in Jefferson Davis Paris. Vickie also worked with Johnson & Brown Funeral Home since January 4, 2021, where she served as funeral assistant.
In her spare time, she loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and playing Po-Ke-No. Vickie never met a stranger, always greeted everyone with a smile, she had a loving spirit and a servant’s heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John “Johnny” Lynn Melanson; fiancé, Mark Guillory; parents, Thomas R. and Lillian (Miller) Broussard; sister, Mary Palmeda (Broussard) Sharp; brother, Cornelius Broussard; godmother, Sylvia Guillory; great-nephew, Charles Broussard; in-laws, J.B. and Ruby Melanson, and sister-in-law, Liz Melanson; pets, Honey and Goldberg.
Vickie is survived by her stepchildren, Micah Melanson (Caroline), Marcus Melanson (Stephanie), Michelle Malone (Drew); brothers, Roy Broussard (Dana), and Tim Broussard (Roxanne); grandchildren, Bryce, Cruz, Jonah, Claire, Wyatt, Brooks, Hayes and Trace.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa. Rev. Joseph Caraway, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Monday in the Iowa Knights of Columbus Hall, 503 East Hwy 90, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., with rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
