Victor E. Miesel, 98, departed this world to meet his LORD and Savior on January 01, 2019 peacefully at his home at The Verandah in Lake Charles LA.
Mr. Vic as he enjoyed being called was born in Shippensburg PA on April 28, 1920. His father, Dr. Rev. Walter E. Miesel was a Lutheran Church minister and his mother, Helen Miesel was a Church Secretary for many years. Vic grew up in Pittsburgh PA and joined the military Army Air Corps in February 1942 at the start of World War 2. He served 3 ½ years in the South Pacific Theater in the 336 Service Squadron. After the War ended, he returned to Pittsburgh and joined the Bell Telephone Company and ended as a supervisor in the engineering division. He married his wife of 70 years, Florence L. Miesel in 1946. He retired at 62 years old in 1982 and moved to Tionesta PA. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church first at his father’s church St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Brookline PA and then at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in McMurray PA where he was a founding member, and then at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Tionesta PA and finally and currently at St John’s Lutheran Church in Lake Charles LA.
He is survived in life by his 4 children, Victor C. Miesel of Lake Charles LA, Bradley R. Miesel of Houston TX, Sandra West of Damon TX, and John E. Miesel of Pittsburgh PA, and a brother, Walter (Jack) Miesel of Pittsburgh PA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Vic loved the outdoors of hunting and fishing which he enjoyed teaching his children. He was the pitcher for the church league slow pitch softball team until he was close to 60 years old. He loved building things and actually built the 2 homes that he lived in with his own hands. He also loved working on cars and doing mechanical work on the side. He was a longtime member of the LIONS Club and the American Veterans Assn (AMVETS). Vic loved to help other people and was always willing to offer his advice or service. His last years were spent being extremely proud of his military service and could always be seen wearing his World War 2 Veterans Hat. He loved when people stopped him and thanked him for his service which happens quite often in Lake Charles. He was determined to make it to 100 years old as his mother had and he almost did. He had a great life and he will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was a GOOD MAN.
There will be a memorial service for Vic at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 600 University Drive, Lake Charles on Saturday January 05, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
