Iowa – Virginia Betty Bourne, born March 20, 1935, daughter of the late Charles Maxim and Virginia Mary (Petit) Duhe’, passed away in a local hospital on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at the age of 86.
Betty, a graduate of Westwego High School, was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, where she was active with the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She was also involved with the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. While she loved playing bingo and Pokeno, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Wilfred Bourne, Sr.; daughter, Elaine Elizabeth Bourne; siblings, Hilda; Buddy; Huey; Richard; Joseph and, Louis.
Betty is survived by her children, Lori Bourne Fritzenschaft (Peter); Shari Bourne Rhoden (Patrick); Wilfred Bourne, Jr. (Pauline); Charlie Bourne (Tiffie); siblings, Dorothy Guidroz; Gail Barbier (Billy); Elaine Duhe’; sisters-in-law, Helen Duhe’; Betty Duhe’; Jackie Duhe`; Louise Bourne and Charlene Bourne; grandchildren, Andrew Fritzenschaft (Haleigh); Amy Bourne Hulsey (Lance); Nathan Fritzenschaft; Rachel Bourne Gillespie (Eric); Kristi Bourne Cassidy (Charles); Cole Bourne and Ahndi Bourne; great-grandchildren, Karleigh, Adalyn and Caroline Hulsey and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Monday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume in the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
As per the request of the family, facial coverings are encouraged, and no food will be allowed in the funeral home.
