Virginia Byrd Crawford

Virginia Byrd Crawford, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2016.

She was born November 22, 1924 in St. Augustine County, TX to Mary Bessie (Perry) and Bewley Carroll Byrd. She attended elementary school in Colmesneil and graduated from Zavalla High School in 1943. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles and enjoyed volunteering in the two year old nursery and Bereavement Food Service committee for many years.

Mrs. Crawford was a loving mother and grandmother, who will be warmly remembered for so many of her wonderful attributes but, the main one will be her love of cooking!

Survivors include her sons, Carl Crawford of Sulphur and Walter Crawford of Lake Charles; daughter, Janet Crawford-Klumpp and husband Mike (Mike’s mom, Patsy Klumpp); the driving force behind her longevity was her three grandchildren, Chelsea, Mary Clare, and John Michael Klumpp, also of Lake Charles; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, John William Crawford, Jr.; her parents; sisters, Joy Simonton and Pauline Crawford; and brother, Ray Linden Byrd.

Thank you unendingly to Dr. Tony Leung for his care, kindness, and support, the staff at Lake Charles Dialysis, and to all Mrs. Crawford’s special friends she’s made there over the years and to the staff of Heart of Hospice. To the E.R., third and fourth floor nursing staff at St. Patrick’s Hospital, you are all truly angels. Many thanks for prayers and support from all but, especially Deacon Don Parker and friends at First Baptist Church.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Christopher Simonton will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
