Walter Olin Moss, Jr., 74, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away on August 10, 2016 in Lake Charles as a result of injuries he sustained in a fall at home. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the physician assistant program at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas in 1975. He was also a graduate of the ADN and BSN nursing programs at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Walter enjoyed a successful career as a physician assistant and registered nurse. Patients and co-workers often remarked on his kind and gentle bedside manner.
Walter was a devout Christian and faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur, Louisiana. He was also a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fannett Texas, where the family lived for 28 years before returning to Sulphur to retire. Friends and loved ones will miss his boisterous laugh and his open heart.
Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Spell Moss; his four children, Valerie Moss Sassi and husband Jon, son, Walter Olin Moss, III (Olin), Amanda Moss of Irving, Texas, Alyssa Moss of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Walter is also survived by his sisters Olive Moss Sartor of Monroe and Mary Moss Winterton of Lake Charles; brothers Dr. John Lee Moss of New Orleans and Dr. Charles Eugene Moss of Sumter, South Carolina, sister in law Charlene Flowers, sister in law Olive Campbell, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Walter Olin Moss, Sr., mother Clara Guthrie Moss, and his stepmother Josephine Moss Dinsmore.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, from 6:00-9:00pm at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, and Sunday at 1:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur. Funeral Service begins at 2:00 pm on Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Bradley Swire and Rev. Leon Boggs officiating. Graveside Service will follow at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Autism Speaks (autismspeaks.org) or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org).
