Gwen Huggs

Wanda Gwen O’Neal Huggs, 73, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Conroe, Texas, surrounded by her family. Gwen was a 1970 graduate of Sulphur High School. She enjoyed bowling and won many trophies in her earlier years. Gwen was happiest being a stay at home mother with her girls. She loved being with her grandchildren whom she called her “Angel Babies” and her great grandchildren. Gwen also had a love for singing in the church choir. For the last several years, Gwen had been living in Conroe, Texas with her daughter and family.

“Mom was very simple. She put others first. She was a giver and loved making others happy. She enjoyed being surrounded by family.”

Gwen is survived by her daughters, Christi Fontenot and husband, Harry of Carlyss and Angela Heape and husband, Norris of Conroe, TX; bonus daughter, Renee Rice and husband, Bill of Crossett, AR; grandchildren, Andrea Heape, Katie Lyons, Abigail Bishop and husband, Aaron, Andrew Lyons and Adam Heape; bonus granddaughters, Amanda Guthrie and husband, Max and Brittany Barnett and husband, Jeremy; 4 great grandchildren and 5 bonus great grandchildren; her twin sister, Lynn Terrell of Crossett, AR; brother, David O’Neal of Sulphur, LA; nieces, Joanna Lockwood, Michelle Leader and Julie Davidson; and nephews, David O’Neal and Dalton O’Neal. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. “Bill" Huggs and her parents, Alton and Lillian O’Neal.

Services for Gwen will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home in Sulphur, at 12 PM. Her burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service.
