It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Warren Emile Landry, age 85, of Moss Bluff, Louisiana.
Warren was born on January 1, 1939, to Doris and Warren Emile Landry, Sr, taking great pride in being the first baby born that day in the company town of Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Warren moved to Gretna, Louisiana at the age of 12, and was a member of the first graduating class at Gretna High School. He went on to attend what was then known as S.L.I., now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography with a minor in Geology. He went on to achieve his master’s degree in Geography.
Warren started out working in the oilfield for both N.L. Bariod and Atlantic Refining as a logger and Geography Detection Technician. He was then recruited by the Boy Scouts of America to be their district Scout Executive from Lafayette, Louisiana to Dothan, Alabama. Always looking for a new opportunity, Warren decided to continue working with kids, and began to teach special education classes in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and moved on to teaching Earth Science in Lafayette.
Warren developed an interest in environmental work and became a technical writer for environmental assessments. He wrote plans for containment and disposal of all types of hazardous waste from leaking storage tanks to nerve gas. He worked with both state and federal regulatory agencies as a consultant for OSHA and RCRA. He was proud to have worked in 37 of the 50 states.
Warren was one of the most genuine and friendly people you could ever meet. He gave his time and his heart to all he knew. He had many hobbies and interests. He was a lifetime member of the NRA; he loved fishing, any kind of fishing and was a member of the Contraband Fly Casters. He tied his own flies and taught others how to do it as well. His favorite place to fish was up at Toledo Bend at Green Acres Fishing Lodge where the owners became like family to us. He also Collected Coins. He was a member of “Down at the Bayou” coin club of Lake Charles and the Orange Coin Club of Orange, Texas.
And he dearly loved his God. When attending Moss Bluff United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Board of Trustees, the church council and the Stephen Ministry. He also started a men’s group called the ROMEO’s – Retired Old Men Eating Out. After Leaving Moss Bluff United Methodist, he became a founding member of the Cornerstone Global Methodist Church. He carried his men’s group over there, simply calling it The Shepherds.
He and the love his life, Nancy, traveled the world together as they had always planned to do, visiting four Continents and cities too numerous to mention. Of all the places they traveled, Warren’s favorite was Alaska. They went there five times, and he would have gone again had he been able to. All somebody had to do was say the word “cruise” and he told Nancy to start packing.
Of all things in his life, he was most proud of his son, Geoff. He took such pride watching him grow into a fine man – A GOOD man, who is a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and a selfless giving member of his community. He has called him “#1” his entire life and he meant it with all his heart.
Warren is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Suzanne Dorthea Richter, and his brother Stephen Lynn Landry.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Nancy Lucille, his son Geoffrey Jay and wife Francine, his four wonderful granddaughters, Kori Rae Parker (Sam), Morgan Lee Landry, Aniston Nicole Ramsey (Wyatt), Sydney Elizabeth Landry, three great grandchildren, Connor Michael, Chance Rowan and Presley Ann, and his most special puppy Paisley.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the doctors. nurses, and staff of Harbor Hospice for the compassionate care shown to them and Warren in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
