Wayne Andrew Gros

Wayne Andrew Gros, 85, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born on May 29, 1941, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Wilfred “Fred” Gros and Pearline Wilford Gros. He grew up in Cameron, Louisiana, where he developed a lifelong love for the water and the outdoors.

Wayne served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for several years in the oil industry before beginning a career in the petrochemical industry. He worked as an operator until his retirement.

Some of Wayne’s happiest times were spent on the water. He enjoyed shrimping and crabbing, spending time at the beach, and simply being outdoors with the people he loved. He also enjoyed traveling, and family vacations were a regular part of life through the years. Later in life, his travels even took him abroad.

Above all, Wayne was devoted to his family. He was a generous man who found great satisfaction in taking care of those he loved. Family gatherings meant a great deal to him, and he was happiest simply being surrounded by his family. Even as his health declined, his concern remained with them, wanting to know that everyone was safe and doing well. He continued to enjoy their company and presence until the final moments of his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Dana Jett, Christy Gros, and Matthew Gros and wife Pamela; grandchildren, Whitney Barrow and husband Kyle, Tyler Robertson and wife Shelby, Sydney Grigsby and husband Cory, Addison Jett, Elijah Myers and wife Annie, Ethan Green, Isabella Gros, Mikaela Gros, and Angela Gros; great-grandchildren, Kamry Matte, Olivia Matte, Harley Courville, Myla Barrow, Madyn Barrow, Mack Barrow, Charlee Robertson, Landon Pitts, and Lennon Robertson; his brother, George LaBove and wife Jackie; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 24 years, Mary Elaine Gros; his son, Whitney Michael Gros; his parents; his brothers, Robert Gros and David Gros; his sister, Brenda LaBove, and companion, Bernice Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, with Deacon Harold Nixon presiding. Burial will follow in Westlake Memorial Cemetery, with United States Navy honors, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the start of the service.
